8-Week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is a cognitive and behavioral program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.  It uses a combination of mindfulness meditation, body awareness, and mindful movement to help you become more mindful.

In recent years this course has been the subject of controlled clinical research which has found beneficial effects, including stress reduction, relaxation, and improvements to quality of life. While MBSR has its roots in spiritual teachings, the program itself is secular.

This substantial program is shown to improve emotional wellbeing and be an effective treatment for anxiety or low mood difficulties. It is not only about elevation of low-mood it’s actually life enhancing practice for everyone that increases confidence, focus and happiness.

Mindfulness helps us to; open to life rather than struggle against it, respond to challenges rather than react, show compassion towards ourselves rather than judgement and appreciation rather than negativity – allowing us to feel more connected, open, and more deeply alive.

This is a certified course with 27 hours CPD for those of you who need that sort of thing! It is also a pre-requiste for any mindfulness teacher training you are interested in, including mindfulness for children.  It is a combination of MBSR and MBCT as taught by Bangor University, Wales.

N.B – as well as the 8 weekly 2.5hour sessions this programme also includes an all day retreat with lunch on Saturday 28 October in Tobar Mhuire, Crossgar. It also includes a comprehensive, supportive 94 page file and 3 audio tracks for home practice.  Home practice is an integral part of the course – the more you practice outside of the course – the more the course will benefit you.
