Buddhist Book Club: Thich Nhat Hanh’s ‘Anger: Buddhist Wisdom for Cooling the Flames’

Welcome to the Buddhist Book Club! In this course, we will dive into Thich Nhat Hanh’s ‘Anger: Buddhist Wisdom for Cooling the Flames’. Join us online for a thoughtful discussion on how to embrace and transform anger through mindfulness and compassion. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or new to Buddhism, this event is open to all who seek to explore the teachings of this renowned Zen master. Let’s come together to learn, share, and grow on our life journey. Each 2hour class includes a half hour meditation.

Speaking about this new book club offering, Bridgeen said:

“It’s great to come back to the wisdom of Thay and Plum Village Tradition with this very important book. Over the years leading my meditation classes and Buddhist Book Club, anger has been an often discussed topic. Anger is a natural, often justified human emotion, but the thing is that we all need some help, support, and guidance in handling it, so it doesn’t become the destructive and dangerous energy that it can be. There is no one better than the father of mindfulness, Thich Nhat Hanh to guide us. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to study and practice this very special book.”

This is an 11-week course every Tuesday 7.30-9.30pm from Tuesday 10 September to Tuesday 19 November via zoom.

You need to purchase your own copy of the book (in any format).

There are some prerequisites.

“There is nothing like active shared learning to transform our emotions.”

“Very helpful to read as a group. Being read sections also helped make points clearer. Sometimes hearing it read made it just click in my understanding. I also was comfortable not fully understanding, my need for learning and understanding became clear. I never felt this was a negative in fact the group supported me to accept that and enjoy the process of learning. Smaller groups also a nice way to get to know each other and to hear each other. It gave an opportunity to deepen the discussion and I felt it lead to an even deeper discussion afterward. The meditations were a great way to start and overall the experience and learning has been a very nice way to spend a winter evening.”
